Monolith Estonia

From the action collective *Laevuke*, everyone receives help – even those who haven’t asked for it..
Liisa Saaremäel’s new production closes its ears to the widely accepted narratives of opinion leaders, in order to dive undisturbed into the world of action leaders. We carve a path where none existed before. We climb over the fence that stands before us, both literally and metaphorically. We confront what lies beyond the fence, as well as those who try to prevent it all—those who have decided that this far is as far as one goes.
At the center of Monolith Estonia is the collective Action Society Laevuke, whose goal is to help everyone. Like real-life collectives of this kind, the activities of Action Society Laevuke are highly systematic and meticulously planned—diversions, camouflage, tactical equipment, background checks, and an action plan. Everything is rehearsed before anything is actually done. Like real-life collectives of this kind, the goals of Action Society Laevuke are noble for themselves, but the methods used to achieve them are often not. The line between right and wrong, ethical and unethical, is one of the production’s focal points. Balancing on this line—mixing reality and fiction—invites the audience to question how a well-intentioned citizen can, almost unnoticed, step across this imaginary boundary.
However, unlike other similar real-world collectives, Action Society Laevuke has no ideology. There is only one principle—to help everyone beyond ideology. And that is explosive, in every sense.
