The Whale (Rakvere Theatre)

"The Whale" is a poignant and thought-provoking play about an extraordinarily overweight recluse who teaches literature courses online. Despite his deteriorating health, he is seemingly incapable of stopping his overeating. The more he tries to withdraw from the world, the larger he becomes. However, when he attempts to reconnect with his long-estranged daughter, he encounters a sharp-tongued, unruly teenager who is just as unhappy as he is.

The play tells a story about beauty emerging in unexpected places, guilt, our internal weight, and a man with a big heart, who has always found it easier to love others than to love himself.

The play is based on a script that was adapted into an Oscar-winning film.
